Ovonic Hydrogen Systems is proud to be the first manufacturer of metal hydride storage systems authorized by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to offer a family of portable canisters that can be transported with hydrogen. This authorization allows ready-to-use charged canisters to be shipped to and transported by you and your customers. A copy of our DOT special permit must accompany shipment of the canisters.
All Ovonic Solid Hydrogen Storage canisters have been designed to comply with rigorous standards and have undergone extensive testing for product safety. Canisters feature DOT 3AL cylinders, manual shutoff valves, and pressure relief devices certified to CGA S-1.1 for either CG-9 or CG-12 type devices.
Four standard canister models are currently available. Canisters can be supplied with either standard high-capacity storage alloy (North America only) or international version “air-shippable” alloy. At this time, canisters containing standard high-capacity alloy cannot be transported by aircraft.

Canister Accessories
All canister valve assemblies feature a manual shut-off and female 1/8” NPT interface to which a variety of standard quick-connect couplings can be attached. We are pleased to offer quick-connect couplings specifically designed for use on our canisters by Staubli Corporation. Both the male plug and female socket are rated to 1000psi both coupled and decoupled and are normally closed when decoupled. The female socket features a simple push-button release mechanism and both components have a male 1/8” NPT threaded back-end for ease of connection to other equipment.

To simplify refilling of canisters, we are pleased to offer a pre-assembled refill kit that contains all the components required to connect a canister to a standard industrial hydrogen cylinder: pre-set 250psi regulator with CGA-350 connection, 6 foot (1.8m) braided stainless steel flex hose, and p/n N00950104 valved Staubli plug.
